Many industries require temporary access road construction, including military and defence organizations, which must set up training sites and forward operating bases in the field where tracked and wheeled vehicles are used; mines and quarries, which require multiple access points for excavation work; non-governmental organizations (NGOs), which engage in community development activities like school and medical center construction in remote areas that lack paved roads; and many others. The common quandary that these disparate organizations face is how to rapidly create sturdy and safe temporary road surfaces without incurring excessive costs.
The scientists, civil engineers and researchers at Global Road Technology (GRT) tackled this problem from a unique perspective, asking themselves: what if it could be possible to engage in safe, quick and inexpensive temporary access road construction using only products that are environmentally responsible? Using this key question to guide their work, the technicians at GRT invented the GRT suite of road building, dust suppression and soil stabilization products to enable eco-friendly infrastructure development worldwide.
A key factor that makes Global Road Technology’s temporary access road construction products revolutionary is they can be used with any available road building materials: soils and substrates of any type, sand, gravel, silt, bitumen, clay, etc. Even old asphalt roadbeds can be pulverized and mixed with GRT products to produce new road surfaces. This makes GRT’s products incredibly cost effective because native on-site materials are used (or re-used, as the case may be) rather than paying extra to transport in soil or gravel from remote collection pits. The GRT solution is also environmentally responsible in that in situ materials are recycled and no fuel is expended transporting other materials from faraway locations.
Because Global Road Technology’s temporary access road construction products can be applied in wet or dry conditions and can tolerate a wide range of climates over the long term, they are suitable for use in virtually any location and allow for temporary roads and trails to be constructed during weather that would halt other forms of construction entirely.
GRT road building products are perfect for construction projects in which speed is of the essence, roads and access points are needed immediately and the weather is far from perfect, such as in post-tsunami Japan or in the post-flood Balkan territories. Other products are not nearly as versatile or as durable. Temporary roads made using GRT’s products last longer and are far more stable (and thus safer ) than roads made with other similar products on the market, too.
In addition to being structurally safe, GRT roads are environmentally safe. GRT products do not contain petroleum and do not off-gas or emit carbon-based pollution. GRT products do not contaminate groundwater, nor do they create toxic run-off during storms.
Temporary roads constructed with GRT products are less expensive to build, but they are also less expensive to maintain over the long term. For example, a pothole can be patched using only a wheelbarrow, shovel, some local soil or substrate and a minimal amount of water mixed with GRT 4000 patching solution. No matter what substance the temporary road is made from, GRT 4000 will work to create a sound and lasting pothole patch. No expensive industrial equipment or technical know-how is required.
Aside from the industries listed above, some of the other industries that benefit from GRT’s temporary access road construction products include forestry, agriculture, oil and gas exploration and extraction, rail transportation, civil construction, government, community development, parkland management, disaster recovery and many more.
