National Road Safety Week is being held 15 May – 22 May. The initiative is part of an annual awareness campaign from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways (SARA) group with a number of supporting Government departments and road safety organisations.

It was designed to promote awareness ad lower the number of Australians killed on our roads every year. The stats are shocking and the annual road toll sees 1200 people killed and more than 44,000 seriously injured. For kids aged 15 years and under, injuries sustained in traffic incidents are the biggest cause of death and also ranks the second biggest killer for those aged between 15 to 24 years of age. Easy figures to try and forget until it happens to someone in your family.

There are numerous ways you can get involved with National Road Safety Week (NRSW). Keep reading to find out how you support it.

Wear yellow ribbons and stickers.

Display your support for NRSW by wearing a yellow ribbon or displaying a sticker on your car, bike, bus, trike, tram, scooter, or bicycle.

Raise awareness on socials

You can share your support by dressing in yellow and using #nrsw across social media networks or start meaningful conversations.

Host a yellow morning tea

Increase awareness by hosting a morning tea in your office and serve yellow foods – custard or lemon curd tarts, yellow capsicum, cake with lemon icing.

Light up your building or infrastructure

In 2021, bridges, Australian icons, building and infrastructures turned yellow for the week of National Road Safety Week.
