Did you know…despite Australia’s biggest cities being under extended pandemic lockdowns last year, the number of people killed on Australian roads still increased by 3% compared to 2021.
Friday, 27 March 2022, is the 15th annual Fatality Free Friday, a national road safety campaign coordinated by the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF).
The campaign was created to encourage Australian drivers to consider road safety by vowing to commit to the road safety pledge. The pledge includes the following:
Fatality Free Friday is believed to demonstrate the impact of just how one day of focusing on road safety can make a difference. And if that one day makes a difference every year, why can’t it make a difference every day of the year?
New research conducted for the ASRF found that almost a third of all road users had confessed to caring more about their health than road safety.
56% of the participants survey admitted to risky behaviour such as not driving on the road conditions and eating behind the wheel. Yet 29% admitted to refusing to change their behaviour, even if it was deemed illegal. This alone provides further evidence that road surfaces are now more important than ever.
At Global Roads and Technology, we are committed to helping government departments and local authorities to help keep the road surfaces from degradation. Studies conducted have proven that roads constructed with GRT’s range of innovative products are more robust and able to stand up to the demands of heavy traffic loads or weak subgrades.
Main highways, local suburban roads and haul roads can all benefit from the environmentally friendly polymers resulting in:
Increased load-bearing: Global Road Technology’s products can increase the weight capacity and flexural capacity of road surfaces. Stronger roads are subject to fewer potholes and have the ability to withstand heavy traffic usage. This not only improves road safety, but it is far more cost-effective and sustainable.
Increased durability: In addition to strength, GRT products also provide longevity reducing the amount of money and time spent of road maintenance.
As someone in a position of power and ability to influence the purchasing decision, consider the difference GRT could make to local roads and highways in your area. It’s not going to solve the issue of careless drivers or freak accidents, but stronger more durable roads may make for safer roads.
