Even though it seems extreme to say so, dust control in Adelaide is a matter of life or death given a booming construction sector and its infrastructural development. Construction dust is one of the most significant pollutant that endangers human health worldwide. Nearly 600,000 Australians are exposed to silica dust every year. Respirable crystalline silica dust from construction activities causes silicosis. Silica dust is carcinogenic, and silicosis is a progressive disease therefore changes to health from exposure must be detected early to allow for intervention. No amount of exposure to silica dust is safe. As the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide, is a key part of the overall state plan that has major projects included in the Infrastructure Australia Priority List 2021. Major industries are also based in, around Adelaide, and in South Australia more broadly. Dust is generated from:

  • Unsealed rural and industrial access roads
  • Major projects
  • Rural industries
  • Resources – mining, oil and gas

Global Road Technology (GRT) is a dust control specialist company that offers different dust control technologies for the safety and health of your workers and communities within the vicinity of road construction projects. Road construction standards in Australia, vary across states. GRT realizes this and as an industry leader in developing products and designs we take a “fit for purpose” approach. This can range from high-end public infrastructure to local access roads or even heavily loaded, but variable term mining haul roads. Fitting the right design and right product to the road construction standard and process is critical – and it is WHAT WE DO BEST!

Case Studies: GRT’s Dust control projects in Adelaide and SA

  1. T2T Project Adelaide (complete)

The Torrens Road to River Torrens Project is a 4km non-stop section of South Road between Ashwin Parade, Torrensville and Pym Street Croydon Park, including an upgrade to the parallel South Road surface road, providing significant travel time savings for commuters and freight. GRT provided out GRT: Wet-Loc and GRT: Enviro-Binder for dust and erosion control on this project.

  1. PA2PW (current)

The Port Wakefield to Port Augusta Alliance (PW2PA), a consortium of Contractors, in alliance with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, will deliver the Joy Baluch AM Bridge Duplication in Port Augusta; the Port Wakefield Overpass and Highway Duplication; and the Augusta Highway Duplication Planning Study, between Port Augusta and Port Wakefield. GRT is providing its GRT: Enviro-Binder (Clear) erosion and dust control product for this site to prevent the loss of dust from site, erosion from rain events, and limit impact on motorists, surrounding residents and the environment.

  1. Grain flow (as required seasonally)

Grainflow (Cargill) is and wheat trading and logistics company that runs multiple sites across South Australia and Victoria. GRT provided GRT: Wet-Loc and undertook the application works for a number of years to provide dust control during the harvest and dispatch season at their sites.

Are environmental regulations, health and safety concerns or potential profit loss a concern right now?

GRT’s dust control products

Each project is unique. The GRT Team provides an assessment of the existing project area. This is done to determine the most suitable product/s considering both the environmental and economic impact the GRT product may potentially develop after application. Earth stewardship is non-negotiable, and it is our responsibility to consider full-life cycle of our products to ensure an environmentally friendly approach to dust control.

GRT products provide many innovative benefits while delivering high performing results which result in big savings financially – not to mention water, fuel and improved workplace health and safety. So, what are you waiting for? Reach out to GRT’s General Manager, Daniel Grundy. He is ready and willing to solve your dust control project in Adelaide the GRT way with a wide range of dust control products from the GRT portfolio.
